About

Hi, my name’s Alexander Campbell and on the 12th February 2023, I embarked on a 4 year journey to circumnavigate the world on foot.

My walk around the world will begin and end in my hometown of Sydney, Australia. Along the way, I’m raising money for the Fred Hollows Foundation to support their efforts to restore sight to those who are needlessly blind.

The expedition will be self-supported, so I'm carrying everything in my backpack and resupply on food in towns along the way. My chosen route will see me walk roughly 40,000km, through 30 countries and across 4 continents.

This isn’t my first adventure. Over the years, I've hiked the Colorado Trail (800km) and across the entire length of Nepal on the Great Himalaya Trail (1,600km). Most recently, I completed a 3,750km hike from the Flinders Ranges to my home in Sydney.

In life off-trail, I studied Anthropology and Archaeology at the University of Sydney. I graduated with First Class Honours in Anthropology, with my thesis examining the experiences of long-distance hikers reintegrating into life after their hike.

Now, at the age of 27, I can't wait to spend the next few years roaming the world on foot.
